Why is There a Clicking Sound Coming From Your Furnace?

Your furnace can be susceptible to performance issues–and most of the time, the warning signs are obvious enough to prompt a swift phone call to your local HVAC technician. But in some cases, the indications are subtler, and it may take you a while to notice them. Have you just noticed a clicking sound coming from your furnace, for instance? A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, one of the premier HVAC installation contractors in the area, shares some of the possible reasons below.

  • Congestion in blowers. The bearings in the inducer blower and main furnace blower typically produce a clicking sound when they’re worn out. But most of the time, they start generating these continuous clicks when the inducer blowers and fan shafts have become clogged due to buildup. Replacing the bearings on the main blower motor, plus cleaning and lubricating the fan shafts can mitigate this. Hire an expert HVAC technician from your area to do this for you.
  • Broken gas valve. When the gas valve of your heating system is broken, jammed or damaged, it will fail to let out gas. When this occurs, the ignitor will start clicking over and over, almost like someone trying to use an empty lighter. You’ll want to have this dealt with quickly, so consult the trusted expert in residential HVAC services, A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing for a comprehensive furnace checkup.
  • Faulty flame sensor. Furnaces come with a thermocouple flame sensor that acts as a safety device. When it reacts to an abnormal flame temperature, it will shut off the gas automatically and make a recurrent clicking sound. Once you hear it and notice the blower is turning off and on again, the flame sensor might already be defective. Again, it’s generally a better idea to turn to A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing for the necessary solution.

  • Along with air conditioning repair services, A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing can also handle your furnace needs.
