How Do Ductless Air Conditioners Work?

In its heyday, HVAC installation contractors advocated the placement of ducts to consolidate the heating and air conditioning systems in our homes. While there are many advantages to this type of system, it just doesn’t have the same weight it did in the past. The styles (and sizes) of homes being built today vary widely, and the space requirements of a duct network are simply a little too much for smaller-sized residences.

Doing away with ducts adds an extra level of control and flexibility that old home cooling systems don’t have. Enter the Carrier® brand premier ductless air conditioner. Let our experienced HVAC technicians at A-1 Comfort Care show you how this system works, as well as its many benefits.

How Ductless Air Conditioners Work

Aside from the obvious lack of a duct and vent network, there’s very little difference to how ductless air conditioners heat and cool the air inside your home. Single-split systems have one outdoor unit and one indoor unit for a complete system, and are connected by refrigerant copper pipes and electrical wiring. In some systems, one outdoor unit can handle up to five indoor cooling units, allowing you to provide quiet and efficient cooling to a much larger home.

The Benefits of Ductless Air Conditioners

As far as contractors providing residential HVAC services are concerned, ductless systems are much easier to install than other types of systems. In most cases, they only need to drill one hole for the outside connection, which is pretty much the biggest alteration they’ll need to make to your home. Of course, this ease of installation then translates to savings on labor costs for the homeowner. Additionally, the ability to add indoor cooling units as needed offers greater versatility, particularly if you’re planning to do some home remodeling.
