Forced Air Heating: Everything You Need to Know

The heating system of your home is a vital component that helps you keep your home warm and comfortable year round. When it comes to heating systems, you’ll be pleased to learn from your residential HVAC services provider that there are actually many variants of them. The most popular variant, however, is the forced air heating system.

Here’s everything you need to know about this type of HVAC system.

How It Works

A forced air heating system heats up your home by pulling in colder air into the ductwork and pushing it into the furnace, removing any allergens and air pollutants in the process. The furnace then heats the cold air before sending it into a different ductwork that distributes it through the air vents scattered around your home. Don’t want a specific room to be heated up? The solution is simple; all you’ll have to do is close the room’s air vent.

Parts

According to HVAC installation contractors, the forced air heating system is composed of various parts that include the furnace and thermostat. Once the thermostat detects that your home’s temperature is below its settings, the thermostat will turn the furnace on and when your home reaches the desired temperature, it’ll turn it off once more. While these are the most important components of the system, it also includes the blower, heat exchanger, return ducts to suck the cold air in, supply ducts to blow the air into different rooms, air plenum, and fan limit switch.

The Pros and Cons

One of the reasons why the forced air heating system is very popular amongst homeowners is thanks to the various benefits it can bring to your home. For instance, so long as it has a regular furnace filter, a forced air system can improve your home’s air quality by trapping allergens and air particles that can cause respiratory issues for you and your family. It also combines heating and cooling around your home as the forced air system can also function as a central air conditioning for your home. Finally, they are also very energy efficient as they’re manufactured to ensure that they heat or cool your home in an efficient manner.

Despite these benefits, that doesn’t mean that a forced air heating system doesn’t have its downsides. One of these downsides is that uneven air distribution can occur around your home if your vents are blocked by furniture or if they’re poorly placed around your home. Apart from that, failure to maintain the furnace can also create an unhealthy environment around your home.
