A Basic Troubleshooting Guide for Heating Units

Most homeowners can’t help but panic when their central heating system fails in the middle of the cold season. This is a problem that usually won’t creep up on you if the system is well-maintained, but if such problems do arise, the good news is that they’re quite easy to fix.

Experienced HVAC installation contractors recommend first troubleshooting the thermostat. It’s the control center of your HVAC system, and any problem with it will affect the rest of the system. Follow this basic troubleshooting guide from A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing.

Check Thermostat Power

First of all, make sure that your thermostat has power. If the electronic display on your digital model is blank, check to see if the main power source is off. If your thermostat is battery operated, install fresh batteries.

Diagnosing an old-fashioned thermostat is not always easy. Even some experts find it a challenge. Usually, though, it should run when started, and continue running until the room temperature reaches the setting on the thermostat. Ask A-1 Comfort Care to diagnose your thermostat and HVAC system.

Review Mode

Experts in air conditioning repair services also check if your thermostat has power, then take a look at its mode. They make sure that it’s set to heat and its fan is on auto. If not, your thermostat might not be able to signal the equipment to produce the desired heat, causing your home to become a rather chilly one.

Set Thermostat Higher Than Room Temperature

Some thermostats display the room temperature instead of the set temperature, which often causes confusion. Keep in mind that the set temperature must be five degrees higher than the room temperature; only then will the heating system run well.

Get Professional Help

When all else fails, ask providers of residential HVAC services to investigate further. There may be an issue with the thermostat wiring or some other problem that only the experts can fix.
