Whether you’re building a commercial space from scratch or are looking to replace the HVAC unit in your existing space, a well-thought-out and designed HVAC system can go a long way towards improving the overall thermal quality and energy efficiency of your building. It will keep the occupants, workers or tenants in your building more comfortable and also reduce operating costs. In today’s post, commercial and residential HVAC services provider A-1 Comfort Care shares three major design considerations to think about when installing a commercial HVAC system.
Climate zones. In a residential setting, different climate zones aren’t that important and are therefore optional. In commercial buildings, however, it can be a whole different story. Depending on the nature of your business, your building may have different heating and cooling requirements for different floors or areas. Rooms that are frequently used will need more heating and cooling than areas that are unoccupied, and it’s important to keep this in mind when planning the installation.
HVAC sizing. Choosing the right size of HVAC system is probably the single most important consideration for any commercial building. An HVAC unit that’s too small won’t be able to provide adequate cooling or heating for your space, while choosing an oversized system can be equally problematic. Before picking out an HVAC system, be sure to consult with your commercial HVAC installation contractors about the ideal HVAC system size for your building.
Air distribution. Most homes are cooled using underfloor air distribution, while commercial spaces tend to go with overhead air distribution systems. However, this really depends on the design and architecture of your building. If you’re planning for wide open spaces or high ceilings, then you may be better off with underfloor air distribution.
